Study at Dartmouth CollegeDartmouth College is a private, coeducational university located in Hanover, New Hampshire. It is a member of the Ivy League and was one of nine Colonial Colleges founded before the American Revolution. The college has an enrollment of over 5,000 students. Dartmouth’s campus is spread across an area of more than 250 acres in the Upper Valley of New Hampshire. Dartmouth offers only a four-year Bachelor of Arts degree to its undergraduate students. There are more than 35 academic departments offering over 50 majors. The college was ranked fifteenth in terms of difficulty of admission in the United States by The Princeton Review in 2007. Dartmouth College’s sports teams compete in the Ivy League conference of the NCAA Division I. Dartmouth is located in a rural site not far from an urban area, in Hanover, NH. The school is a private, not-for-profit institution. Degree levels at Dartmouth top out at the Doctoral degree. One of the good things about the school is its wide range of programs leading to degrees. Students at Dartmouth often study science, mathematics, engineering, and liberal arts. The admissions department at the school does not accept all those who apply. In 2007, 84% of applicants were rejected at Dartmouth. Most students' verbal SAT scores were in the range of 670 to 770 in 2007. A quarter of students admitted in 2007 scored 780 or higher on the math SAT. Students at Dartmouth benefit from the low student/teacher ratio. The school's tenure system is geared toward rewarding and keeping the most valuable professors. By paying its faculty better than most schools, Dartmouth tries to attract and retain a high quality teaching staff. The school offers classes to 5,849 students (5,786 full-time equivalent). Minorities are common at Dartmouth. The school serves primarily full-time students. Dartmouth has a residential or campus feel. Many students live in housing on or near campus.
