Study at East Texas Baptist UniversityEast Texas Baptist University, also known as ETBU, was established in 1912 as the College of Marshall. It became the East Texas Baptist College in 1944, and was finally named the East Texas Baptist University in 1984. This coeducational, private Christian university is located in Marshall, Texas. Students of East Texas Baptist University are offered a large number of degree programs through the following academic divisions: The athletics department of East Texas Baptist University sponsors teams in softball, volleyball, basketball, cross country, soccer, baseball, and football. Known as the Tigers, the teams compete in the American Southwest Conference, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III level. The campus of East Texas Baptist University is in Marshall, TX, which is a town not particularly near any major cities. Its Baptist nature is one of the defining aspects of the school.
