Study at Fairmont State UniversityFairmont State University is a public university located in Fairmont, West Virginia. It was established in 1865 as the West Virginia Normal School. After a few name and status changes, it was finally named Fairmont State University on April 7, 2004. The university enrolls more than 7,000 students. FSU offers more than 80 baccalaureate and 45 associates degrees and several masters degrees. FSU is organized into the following academic divisions: Fairmont State University's athletic teams are nicknamed the Falcons. They participate in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in the NCAA Division II. Fairmont State is in Fairmont, WV. Fairmont is a town not far from a more urbanized area. The school is a public institution. Fairmont State issues awards (degrees) up to the level of Master's degree. Fields of study in vogue at the school include education and teaching, engineering technician, and security and law enforcement. Not all applicants to Fairmont State are accepted. The top quarter of students at the school scored at least 550 on the verbal SAT test. Students' math SAT scores were most often in the range 430 to 530 in 2007. The most successful professors at Fairmont State are given tenure, encouraging them to stay with the school for a long time. Approximately 4,464 students study at the school (in 2007).
