Study at Gallaudet UniversityGallaudet University is a quasi-governmental, federally chartered university which offers educational programs for the deaf and hard-of-hearing students. It is located in Washington, D.C. The institution was established in 1864 as the National College for the Deaf and Dumb. The name of the university has been changed a number of times over the years. Gallaudet University offers several graduate and undergraduate programs in diverse Course Topics including business administration, cultural studies, mental health counseling, and deaf education. Gallaudet University is a member of the Capital Athletic Conference and the NCAA Division III. The sports teams of the university are known as the Bisons, and they participate in basketball, football, baseball, tennis, and softball. In addition, the students are also involved in various clubs and organizations including the Campus Crusade for Christ, Kappa Sigma Fraternity, International Student Club, and Student Enrollment Government. Gallaudet is located in Washington, DC (a large city). The school is a private, not-for-profit institution. The highest degree level offered by Gallaudet is the Doctoral degree. The school has a greater breadth of degree programs (majors) than most colleges of its size. Gallaudet is known for its programs in mathematics, family and social work, and therapy and counseling.
