Founded in 1789 by Father John Carroll, Georgetown University is a Jesuit private university located in Georgetown, Washington, D.C. Georgetown is the oldest Roman Catholic university in the United States. Georgetown University has three campuses in Washington, D.C. They include:

The main campus covers over 100 acres of land and includes more than 55 buildings, student residences and various athletic facilities. Georgetown comprises 4 undergraduate schools and 3 graduate and professional schools.

Georgetown's athletic teams are nicknamed The Hoyas. They own over 25 varsity teams and more than 15 club teams. Varsity teams participate in the NCAA's Division I. The most notable alum of the university is former U.S. President Bill Clinton.

Georgetown Selectivity

The admissions department at the school does not accept all those who apply. In 2007, 79% of applicants were rejected at Georgetown. Most students' verbal SAT scores were in the range of 650 to 750 in 2007. A quarter of students admitted in 2007 scored 740 or higher on the math SAT. It's not unusual for students to find their classmates include those from other parts of the country.

Faculty

Students at the school benefit from the low student/teacher ratio. The school's tenure system is geared toward rewarding and keeping the most valuable professors. By paying its faculty better than most schools, the school tries to attract and retain a high quality teaching staff.
