Study at Pacific University
Pacific University is a private, independent, liberal arts institution located in Forest Grove, Oregon, United States. It was established in 1849 as Tualatin Academy by the United Church of Christ (UCC). The university offers graduate programs in a wide variety of fields such as writing, education, optometry, and health professions. Pacific University is organized into the following academic divisions: Pacific University sponsors more than 20 intercollegiate programs. The men’s and women’s sports teams compete in baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, and soccer. Pacific University participates in the NCAA Division III program as a member of the Northwest Conference. Their sports teams are nicknamed the Boxers. The university also has a cheerleading team. The campus of Pacific University is in Forest Grove, OR, which is a large suburb. The school is a private, not-for-profit institution. Degrees at Pacific University include, at the school's highest level, the Doctoral degree. The school is known for its programs in medicine, education and teaching, therapy and counseling, and nutrition and exercise therapy. Admission at Pacific University is selective, not open to all who apply. Three quarters of students in 2007 had SAT verbal scores of at least 510. Half of math SAT scores of accepted students fell between 490 and 600. Pacific University maintains a faculty/student ratio (full-time) which is better than most colleges. The school has a tenure system for senior faculty. In 2007, Pacific University had 2,977 students enrolled (2,796 full-time equivalent). Full-time students are the norm at the school. Pacific University offers dorm rooms to a higher percentage of its students than do most colleges. The school values student athletics, and belongs to the Northwest Conference.
