Study at Radford University
Radford University, or RU, is a public, state-funded university in Southwestern Virginia. It was established in 1910 as a women's college, but in 1972 it became coeducational. There are over 8,000 undergraduates and more than 1,000 postgraduates enrolled in this university which has a campus of over 177 acres. Radford University offers undergraduate degrees in liberal arts and a number of programs at the master degree level. These include the M.F.A. and M.B.A. degrees. Radford University’s athletics teams are known as the Highlanders and the team colors are red and white. The University offers a number of varsity sports for men and women. Among these are tennis, rugby, baseball, cross-country, golf, soccer, track & field, field hockey, softball, swimming & diving, volleyball and basketball. The tennis, basketball and rugby teams have won a number of national championships. The campus of Radford University is in Radford, VA, which is a town not far from a more urbanized area. The school is a public institution. Degrees at Radford University include, at the school's highest level, the Doctoral degree. The school is known for its programs in media and art studies. Admission at Radford University is selective, not open to all who apply. Three quarters of students in 2007 had SAT verbal scores of at least 450. Half of math SAT scores of accepted students fell between 460 and 550. Radford University has a tenure system for senior faculty. In 2007, the school had 9,122 students enrolled (8,502 full-time equivalent). Full-time students are the norm at Radford University. The school offers dorm rooms to a higher percentage of its students than do most colleges. Radford University offers students meal plans.
