Study at Saint Francis University
Saint Francis University, also known as SFU, was established in 1847, and is a co-educational Catholic university of liberal arts located in Loretto, Pennsylvania. The campus of the university is spread across an area of 600 acres. The university offers various graduate and undergraduate programs. Several continuing education programs are also provided at SFU. SFU’s athletics department sponsors more than 20 varsity teams. They compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I. The teams are nicknamed as Red Flash. They participate in sports including basketball, field hockey, cross country, swimming, and track & field. Some of the notable alumni of SFU are Charles M. Schwab, Industrialist; Maurice Stokes, Basketball player; and Robert Conway, Vice Admiral United States Navy. The main campus of Saint Francis University is in Loretto, PA (a rural site not far from an urban area). The school is a Roman Catholic institution. Saint Francis University is a private, not-for-profit school. The school offers degrees up to the Doctoral degree. Saint Francis University offers a wide array of programs of study, compared to other schools of its size. The school students most commonly major in a field related to business and management. Saint Francis University does not accept everyone who applies. In 2007, SAT verbal scores of half of students were 460 to 550. Three-fourths of students accepted in 2007 had SAT math scores of 460 or more. Students attending Saint Francis University come from a variety of places, in and out of state. The school offers tenure to reward and retain some professors. In 2007, Saint Francis University had 2,125 enrolled students. The school is generally not a school for part-time students. Many students at Saint Francis University live in campus housing. The school makes available a lot of student housing. Meal plans are available. Student athletes at the school belong to the Northeast Conference for major sports.
