Learning Support Programme
The College Alpin Beau Soleil is a privately-owned international boarding school with approximately 190 boys and girls of over 40 different nationalities. Founded in 1910, Beau Soleil has been under the guidance of the de Meyer family since 1959. The school is situated at an altitude of 1, 300m in an alpine village of some 2, 500 inhabitants, facing south across the Rh?e Valley. Geneva is 75 minutes away by road or rail. The school is divided into two sections. The French Lycee offers classes from the 'Quatrière' to the Terminale, following the official programme of the French Baccalaureate. The International Section provides academic programmes for grades seven to twelve, initially leading to the IGCSE examinations, followed by the IB Diploma and High School Diploma programmes.
Classes are small (maximum 16 students, average 10). Study time is closely supervised and small tutor groups are available for students with academic difficulties. Each student is discussed individually at half-termly staff meetings and a detailed academic report is sent to the parents after each meeting. The students are housed in the main school building and in four smaller boarding houses close by. Sporting, leisure and cultural activities are organized in the evenings and at weekends. The sports infrastructure of the school and the local area is extensive, and sports and outdoor challenges play an important part in the school curriculum. Winter sports are a key element in the second term. The school's commitment to humanitarian service is reflected in projects in India and in Africa, These provide opportunities for students to help partner schools in Southern India and an orphanage in Tanzania. Students have regular chances to participate in adventurous activities around the world, including climbing Kilimanjaro and other mountain summits. Emphasis is placed on creating a family atmosphere in which respect, responsibility, motivation and effort are actively promoted. Students are expected to develop independence and self-sufficiency in their studies and daily lives, as well as leadership qualities.
