Learning Support Programme
The International School Winterthur (ISW) was founded to provide the finest education for the growing international population in the Greater Zurich and Winterthur areas.
The International School Winterthur is an authorized IBO PYP, MYP, and DP school. These programmes combine the best research and practice from a range of national systems with a wealth of knowledge and expertise from international schools to create a relevant and engaging educational experience.
The school currently offers an Early Years Programme (ages 3 to 5) and Primary School from Kindergarten up to grade 5. The Middle Years Programme begins at grade 6. The International School Winterthur added the IBO Diploma Programme, grade 11 in August 2010 and will add grade 12 in August 2011.
The language of instruction is English. Students, for whom English is not their mother tongue, are provided with EAL (English as Additional Language) support. In addition, students in kindergarten to grade 10 have a German lesson three times a week, while French and Mandarin are offered as electives to students in grades 6 through 10.
Information technology is deemed important and computers and interactive whiteboards are available for student use. The school also has 2 Multi-Media Centres which the students are actively encouraged to use for both pleasure and research.
Curriculum-based school trips take place during the terms and all children participate in an activities week in August and September. Parent/teacher consultations are held regularly, and four progress reports are issued during the school year.
