Learning Support Programme
Shrewsbury International School was established in September 2003. The establishment is closely affiliated to Shrewsbury School in the UK with which institution there is cooperation across the spectrum of education from governorship through curriculum and careers to recruitment.
The school is united by one vision but is organized into 4 discrete units: Pre-Prep (Kindergarten -Year 2), Prep (Years 3 -6), Senior (Years 7-11) and Sixth Form (Years 12-13). All four areas are housed within the same campus on the banks of the Chao Praya river in the centre of Bangkok and students travel from all areas of the city either by road, sky train or boat. The school buildings are modern, spacious and extensive with special emphasis granted to the creative arts, design technology and sport. Within the curriculum, students work to the structure of the National Curriculum for England and Wales although staff and pupils are strongly encouraged to range beyond its confines in preparation for life beyond school. The high academic standards of the school are complemented by a comprehensive extra-curricular programme and an encouragement of creativity.
Currently, 70% of the students are Thai nationals. All teachers are fully qualified and the vast majority is recruited from the UK. All school activities take place in English and the English Speaking Policy is enforced to ensure very high levels of bilingualism amongst the communities for whom English is not the first language.
The school year has three terms following the UK model. Term 1: September-December; Term 2: January - March; Term 3: April-July.
