Study at Xavier University
Xavier University was established in 1831 as the Athenaeum College for men.
It is the fourth oldest Jesuit University and the sixth oldest Catholic
university in the United States. The campus sits upon an area of around 125
acres in Cincinnati, Ohio. The university ranked second in 2008 among top ten
universities in the Midwest by the U. S. News and World Report. The university
offers more than 70 academic programs and degrees and is divided into the
following colleges:

Xavier University competes in the National Collegiate Athletic Association
Division I in the Atlantic Ten Conference. Its sports teams are known as the
Musketeers and participate in basketball, cross country, baseball, volleyball, swimming, track and field, golf, tennis and soccer.

Prospective students are advised that admissions are not open to all; the school
selects from among qualified applicants. Three quarters of students in 2007 had
SAT verbal scores of at least 530. Half of math SAT scores of accepted students
fell between 540 and 645.
Faculty
Xavier University has a tenure system for senior faculty. The full-time faculty
at the school is well-paid, which often goes with faculty quality.

Full-time students are the norm at the school. Xavier University offers dorm
rooms to a higher percentage of its students than do most colleges. The school
