Baylor University is a private Baptist affiliated research university located in Waco, Texas. The university was established in the year 1845. BU is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. It is also a member of the Association of Southern Baptist Colleges and Schools. The University is known for its programs in music, business, law, theology and science. It offers bachelor's, master's, doctorate and professional degrees through its eleven degree-granting academic units. Two of the academic units are designated as colleges while the other eight are designated as schools. The men's sports teams of Baylor are nicknamed 'The Bears' and the women's teams are nicknamed 'The Lady Bears. ' Baylor athletics compete in the NCAA's Division I.
