Texas Tech University, or TTU, is a public, co-educational, research university located in Lubbock, Texas. It was established on February 10, 1923, and was originally known as the Texas Technological College. The campus of TTU is spread across an area of 1, 839 acres. It offers degrees in more than 150 courses of study and these courses are offered in over 10 colleges. The university also hosts more than 50 research centres and institutes. The athletics department of TTU fields many men's and women's sports teams that are members of the Big 12 Conference (South Division) and participate in Division I for all varsity sports. Their sports teams are known as the Red Raiders. The Lady Raiders women's basketball team won the women's national championship in 1993.
