Winchester School of Art

Winchester School of Art (WSA), founded 142 years ago, has an  international reputation for excellence in teaching and research across a range of disciplines.  WSA is 12 miles from Southampton, in Winchester's

historic town centre: it is linked to the University’s main campus via direct rail and bus routes.

We offer students a high quality creative experience through  interdisciplinary collaborations, research opportunities, specialist facilities and expert teaching staff.  All programmes are available full or part time.

We are committed to helping you get the most out of your undergraduate degree. Teaching methods include inductions, lectures, seminars, workshop sessions, work placements and tutorials and guidance. The quality of teaching at WSA was graded Excellent by the Quality Assurance Agency in 2000.

Academic strengths
The specialist range of study and research opportunities we offer is unique and dynamic: fine art practice and theory, fashion and textile design, textile art, textile history, textile conservation and museum studies.

The Textile Conservation Centre is based on the Winchester campus. It is unique internationally and is renowned for its teaching, research and conservation practice. WSA is home to the AHRC Research Centre for Textile Conservation and Textile
Studies and the Centre for Contemporary Art Practice.

Career prospects
Our graduates go on to pursue a variety of international careers: as artists, designers, curators and conservators. Many have followed the postgraduate route undertaking taught master’s and PhD research.
