This course aims to  provide basic ophthalmic knowledge and practical skills for everyone. Topics include:

  • Understanding the eye and visual loss

  • refractive errors and correction

  • external eye disease

  • eye movement disorders/squints

  • neurophthalmology including acute presentations

  • cataract

  • diabetic retinopathy and retinal vascular disease

  • the red eye and the painful eye

  • glaucoma

  • age related macular disease

  • ocular trauma and acute ophthalmology

  • systemic disorders and the eye

  • sudden visual loss

  • lots of interactive cases

 

Practical sessions include - visual assessment, pupils, visual fields, colour vision, ophthalmoscopy  including lots of diabetic retinopathy and retinal diseases,  optic discs and macular pathology, slit lamp examination and how to take intraocular pressures.
