Wayland Baptist University Arizona

Gates HallWayland is the oldest institution of higher education on the High Plains of West Texas. As a private, coeducational Baptist university, Wayland exists to educate students in an academically challenging and distinctively Christian environment for professional success, lifelong learning and service to God and humankind.

The main campus of Wayland Baptist University is located in the heart of Plainview, Texas. In addition to the Plainview campus, Wayland has 12 external campuses in the United States and offers an Associate's Degree through Kenya Baptist Theological College.

Approach

The University seeks to educate its students by developing them intellectually, physically, spiritually, and socially, preparing them to move into a variety of professions or into further study. Wayland offers a strong liberal arts education in a traditional setting and provides degree programs that serve the needs of an older, highly mobile, employed population. Through the main campus in Plainview and multiple campuses, both domestic and international, Wayland offers associate, baccalaureate, and masters degrees. The University employs faculty, staff and administrators dedicated to its mission and seeks to attract a student body from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, religious, and geographical backgrounds. Wayland serves its students and other constituencies by providing appropriate academic and technical expertise, spiritual resources, cultural and athletic events, and facilities.

Student Activities

To encourage student interaction and personal development, the University provides a number of student activities.  The mission and goal of Wayland Student Activities is to provide the campus and its population with a variety of quality programs and activities that both entertain and educate the WBU community.  These events are valuable in serving to relay traditions to new students and in creating lasting memories of the college years.  All students not on academic and/or disciplinary probation are eligible to participate in all university activities and are invited and encouraged to partake in these campus-wide events.

Housing Philosophy

Wayland Baptist University seeks to help students develop spiritually, emotionally, and physically. We believe these three areas can be impacted significantly within our residence halls. From designing creative programming to leading in educational activities, our residence hall staff is committed to providing a comfortable yet exciting living environment for all residents.

Our staff is trained in counseling, development theory, communication skills, and other areas that will play an important role in all community environments. Implementing this philosophy, we see incoming freshmen leave as mature, educated graduates.
