Allied Health and Nursing Departments at NorthWest Arkansas Community College The Allied Health and Nursing Departments at NorthWest Arkansas Community College are producing qualified graduates that are working in the rapidly growing healthcare professions. The healthcare field is expanding both in Northwest Arkansas and nationally, with an ever-increasing need for trained professionals, and NorthWest Arkansas Community College is on the forefront of healthcare education. NorthWest Arkansas Community College offers several healthcare, emergency medicine, and fire/rescue programs. EMT-Basic (Certificate) - An introductory study to Emergency Medical Programs. Standards of
care, procedures, and techniques for dealing with emergencies are
discussed. Upon successful completion, the EMT candidate should meet the
requirements to challenge the Arkansas or National EMT certification
Exam. First Responder is a prerequisite to the EMT Program. For more

Paramedics work under the direction of
a physician and recognize, assess and manage medical emergencies of
acutely ill or injured patients in pre-hospital care settings. This
program includes 33 credit hours of Emergency Medical Services -
Paramedic course work completed in 4 semesters for a certificate.
Special admission requirements must be met. Prerequisite courses include
A&P I and II, Medical Terminology, Dysrhythmias, Intro, Advanced
Pharmacology, and EMT Basic. Additional general education courses are
required for the AAS degree. For

This program is designed to prepare students to enter the fire service,
promote to a position of leadership
within a fire department, and/or continue their education toward a
bachelor's degree. The program consists of
67-68 credit hours of course
work in fire science technology, fire science administration, and
general education. Students may begin their program of study during any
semester. For more

Respiratory Care Practitioners are specialized members of
the health-care team who evaluate, treat and manage patients with
breathing disorders. The main responsibilities of
this profession include medical gas therapy, delivering medication
to the airways, managing life support equipment, and diagnostic testing.
This program consists of 42 credit hours of general education courses
and 42 credit hours of respiratory

Director at 479-619-4250 or aclark@nwacc.edu. Physical Therapist Assistant (AAS degree) - The
Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Program is designed to prepare
students to perform as entry-level PTAs.
Under the supervision of a physical therapist, entry level PTAs
provide patient care to optimize an individual’s level of function
after an injury or illness. PTAs work in a variety of clinical
environments including outpatient facilities, hospitals, rehabilitation
centers, schools and home health. The
PTA Program includes two semesters of prerequisite course work followed
by admission to the PTA Program for three semesters of technical and
clinical physical therapy courses.
Successful completion of the PTA Program leads to an Associate of
Applied Science Degree making the student eligible to sit for the
National Physical Therapist Assistant Examination (NPTAE).
The student must pass the NPTAE to receive a license to practice
in the state of Arkansas. Those
students wishing to practice in other states should contact the state
regulating board of physical therapy for that state to obtain their

Nursing (RN) Program – (AAS degree) - The
Associate of Applied Science degree in Nursing is designed to prepare
graduates to apply for the National Council Licensure Examination for
Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) and to function as Registered Nurses in
providing client care at the beginning staff level position. Graduates
who attain RN licensure are prepared to provide client care at the
beginning staff nurse level. General nursing education imparts a broad
base of nursing knowledge. Those individuals wishing to pursue further
education and/or a nursing specialty will have the necessary knowledge
base upon which to advance their professional career. Nursing students
complete clinical experiences in area healthcare facilities. The Nursing
Program also offers a LPN to RN Transition Track.
