The English/English Education
program results in two bachelor's degrees. One of these degrees is a
Bachelor of Arts in English, conferred by UW's College of Arts and
Sciences. The other degree in this program is a Bachelor of Arts in
English Education, conferred by UW's College of Education. Students who
declare English/English Education as their major must meet graduation
requirements stipulated by both the College of Arts and Sciences and the
College of Education. Students receive teaching certification in English
from the state of Wyoming. Click here

The English/Theater Education
program results in a bachelor's degree in English/Theater Education,
conferred by UW's College of Education. Students receive teaching
certification in both English and Theater from the state of Wyoming.

The English/Journalism Education program
results in a bachelor's degree in English/Journalism Education,

Teacher
Education Program

The Wyoming Teacher Education Program (WTEP) is one of
the premier teacher preparation programs in the United States. The
National Education Association has selected UW as a model for teacher
education programs across the country. It is nationally accredited by
the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
Secondary English teacher education at the University of
Wyoming occurs in three phases.

Phase I begins in the sophomore year when
students take EDST 2000, Becoming a Teacher, and begin working in
the public schools.

In Phase II, EDST 3000, Teacher as Decision
Maker, students are introduced to unit and lesson plans. During this
practicum experience they teach in a k-12 classroom. Students are
admitted to the WTEP upon meeting requirements and enrolling in
Phase II.

Phase III is a two-semester sequence. The Phase
IIIA semester takes place in the fall and consists of pedagogy
classes and participation in a four-week practicum. Phase
IIIB is completed in the spring in the same public school.
Working with the same mentor teacher during both practica enhances
the educational experience. Application is made for Phase III in
December of the year prior to actually enrolling.
