Salem
International University
West Virginia
The picturesque 300-acre main campus in
beautiful, wild West Virginia has been called both an "educational
retreat,” and “a light in the hills.” Founded in 1888 as Salem
College, Salem International University is a campus-based
institution that is committed both to West Virginia and to its
role as an international leader in technology-based educational
delivery systems.
Students have a true
multi-cultural experience by joining a campus community with students
from 24 countries around the world and 42 states across the nation.
They can also have an
unconventional academic focus with a degree in education, business,
applied computer science, criminal justice or biology.
SIU provides a career
focused approach to higher education that recognizes the importance of a
global economy.
Salem International University is an institution of higher learning and
is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central
Association of Colleges and Schools, and the West Virginia State Board
of Education.
Why Salem
International University ?
1.Student-Centered
Focus.
SIU’s student: teacher ratio of 14:1 provides students the opportunity
for individual attention. Plus, SIU’s academic calendar is sequenced to
provide eight-week modules throughout the year. On-campus students can
begin classes six times throughout the year (or every other month), an
arrangement that makes it easier for international students to enroll at
SIU. Online students can begin classes 12 times per year—every month!
2.
Global Outreach.
SIU’s international partnerships means students have links to
educational centers in more than 60 countries across the globe. SIU
students are currently enrolled online throughout the world, as well as
in traditional on-campus classes at its home in West Virginia, with a
highly diverse student body.
3.
Your hard work recognized.
SIU will accept NON-traditional credits
(C or better) and transfer them into a Bachelor of Science degree in
Business Administration with a concentration in Applied Management. This
gives you the opportunity of a TRADITIONAL 4 year degree, if you have
gone to a business, trade, technical school or community college to
increase your career prospect.
4.
Unique Programs.
Graduates are prepared to succeed in the global job market by a
curriculum that supports a strong academic major while integrating SIU’s
international goals. Students can study specialized subjects like Equine
Career & Industry Management, International Business, Japanese Studies
or Molecular Biology. Or, students can major in traditional fields like
business management or education.
5.
Location.
SIU’s rural 300-acre campus is in one of the most beautiful states in
the nation: West Virginia. Students at SIU are within two hours of
Pittsburgh, a half-day’s drive to Washington, D.C., and are close to
some of the best whitewater rafting and snow-skiing areas in the United
States.
As Salem International
University, the institution charted a new course for itself and for
American higher education. While retaining the tradition of small
classes and providing extra attention to students, Salem International
University now seeks to provide students with an international,
intercultural educational experience. Its faculty has adopted a flexible
modular that facilitates the entrance of students on a rolling basis
throughout the year. The faculty has also internationalized the
curriculum and is continuing to explore ways of providing internships
and expanding study abroad opportunities. Salem International University
encourages the involvement of all faculty, students, and staff in the
process of implementing its international mission.
