The National Holistic Institute (NHI) is a massage therapy school located on five California campuses. Founded in 1979, NHI's primary campus in Emeryville, California pioneered a 720-hour program that set the standard for massage training and professional practice. Course Topics

NHI offers a comprehensive 720-hour Massage Therapy career program, conducted in three stages: Massage Theory and Practice, Career Development, and Hands-On Practical Experience. In the initial stage of the program, students are taught a wide variety of massage techniques, including Swedish massage, sports massage, acupressure/shiatsu massage, deep tissue massage, seated massage and energizing massage. They will also learn how to perform assessments and customize a massage session. Courses include instruction about the structure and function of the musculo-skeletal system. During the Career Development phase, students learn the business and professional skills needed to build a successful professional practice. In the final phase, students acquire hands-on practical experience via a Student Clinic and the school's externship program.
