University of California- Hastings College of the Law, popularly referred to as just Hastings, was established in 1878 by the first Chief Justice of California, Serranus Clinton Hastings. It was the first school of law under the University of California. Located in San Francisco, California, Hastings was ranked 38th among the best law schools in the US by the U.S. News and World Report of 2008.

University of California- Hastings College of the Law offers the Juris Doctor program in areas including criminal law, taxation, family law, civil litigation, international law, and intellectual property law. Special one-year LL.M. degrees are also offered.

The O'Brien Center for Scholarly Publications is the publishing department of Hastings. The students publish several journals including the Hastings Law Journal, Hastings Constitutional Law Quarterly, and Hastings Women's Law Journal.
