Study at Aurora University

 

Aurora University, also referred to as AU, is a private liberal arts college located in Aurora, Illinois, United States. It was founded as Mendota Seminary in Mendota, Illinois in 1893. It was used for training ministers and lay workers of the Advent Christian Church. Aurora College legally separated from the Advent Christian Church in 1971 and, in 1985, it was renamed Aurora University. The main campus spreads across an area of more than 250 acres. Aurora University is organized into the following academic divisions:

  • College of Arts and Sciences
  • College of Education
  • College of Professional Studies

Aurora University sponsors more than 15 sports teams which are nicknamed the Spartans. It also hosts several student clubs and organizations including Fashion Loves You (FLY), Future Leaders of The World (FLOW), and The Actors and Playwrights Society (TAPS).

Aurora Selectivity

Prospective students are advised that admissions are not open to all; the school selects from among qualified applicants. Three quarters of students in 2007 had SAT verbal scores of at least 520. Half of math SAT scores of accepted students fell between 490 and 600.

Aurora has 3,946 enrolled students . A very high share of students at the school are female.

Student Life

Full-time students are the norm at Aurora. The school offers students meal plans. Aurora values student athletics, and belongs to the Illini-Badger Intercollegiate Football Conference.
