Study at Clarke College
Clarke College is a four-year, private college situated in Iowa, United States. It is a Catholic liberal-arts college. The College was founded in 1843 by Mother Mary Frances Clarke, as Saint Mary’s Academy, a boarding school for girls. Clarke College is located on a hill-top in Dubuque and is spread across a 55-acre campus. Clarke College offers graduate programs, adult education, corporate training and special programs in various fields of study. The departments of study at the College include accounting, athletic training, computer science, history, music, religious studies, and social studies. Clarke College has an active student participation in athletics. The College athletic teams are nicknamed as Crusaders. The college is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), and Midwest Collegiate Conference. The varsity athletic teams of the college participate in sports like cross country, soccer, volleyball, basketball, golf, and softball. Clarke is located in Dubuque, IA (a small city). The school is a Roman Catholic school. Clarke is a private, not-for-profit institution. The highest degree level offered by the school is the Doctoral degree. Course TopicsClarke has a greater breadth of degree programs (majors) than most colleges of its size. The school is known for its programs in art studies, drama and performing arts, nursing and emergency medicine, and therapy and counseling. Clarke SelectivityClarke does not offer open admission. Three quarters of students in 2007 had SAT verbal scores of at least 480. Half of math SAT scores of accepted students fell between 460 and 640. Many applicants are from out of state, an indication of the quality or special character of the school. FacultyThe school maintains a faculty/student ratio (full-time) which is better than most colleges. Clarke has a tenure system for senior faculty. Student EnrollmentThe school had 1,230 enrolled students in 2007. Student LifeClarke offers dorm rooms to a higher percentage of its students than do most colleges.
