Study at Asbury College

 

Founded by John Wesley Hughes in 1890, Asbury College was originally known as the Kentucky Holiness College. It was later renamed in honor of the "Father of American Methodism", Bishop Francis Asbury. This private Christian liberal arts institute is located in Wilmore, Kentucky. Asbury College's recent enrollments have been more than 1,500 students representing over 40 states and 10 countries worldwide.

Asbury College offers more than 50 majors to choose from. Master’s degrees in education along with several certification programs are also available. Students can opt for courses in the fields of art, English, history, mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, music, business, and world languages, among others.

The athletics department of Asbury College sponsors teams in baseball, basketball, cross country, soccer, softball, tennis, swimming and diving, and volleyball. Known as the Eagles, the teams compete in the NAIA and the NCCAA Division I.

The campus of Asbury is in Wilmore, KY, which is a town not far from a more urbanized area. The school is a private, not-for-profit institution. Degrees at Asbury include, at the school's highest level, the Master's degree.

Course Topics

The school has a greater breadth of degree programs (majors) than most colleges of its size. Asbury is known for its programs in media, fine arts, and liberal arts.

Asbury Selectivity

Admission at the school is selective, not open to all who apply. Three quarters of students in 2007 had SAT verbal scores of at least 510. Half of math SAT scores of accepted students fell between 497 and 640.

Faculty

The school has a tenure system for senior faculty.

In 2007, Asbury had 1,396 students enrolled (1,304 full-time equivalent).

Student Life

Full-time students are the norm at the school. Asbury has a residential or campus feel. The school offers dorm rooms to a higher percentage of its students than do most colleges. Asbury offers students meal plans. The school values student athletics, and belongs to the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
