Study at Mary Baldwin College
Mary Baldwin College, also known as MBC, is a women’s college. It was founded in 1842 by Rufus William Bailey. It was initially known as the Augusta Female Seminary. The name of the institute was changed to Mary Baldwin Junior College in 1916. It became a four-year college and finally came to be known as the Mary Baldwin College in 1923. The campus is located in Staunton, Virginia. Mary Baldwin College offers certificates, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees in subjects including business, marketing, teaching, and leadership studies, among others. Mary Baldwin College’s athletics teams are nicknamed the Squirrels. The students take part in sports including tennis, basketball, volleyball, softball, and soccer. The college also has several student-run organizations such as the American Chemical Society, Black Student Alliance, Circle K, and Campus Crusade. Mary Baldwin is located in a town not particularly near any major cities, in Staunton, VA. The school is officially a Presbyterian Church (USA) school. Mary Baldwin is a private, not-for-profit institution. Degree levels at the school top out at the Master's degree. Course TopicsOne of the good things about Mary Baldwin is its wide range of programs leading to degrees. Students at the school often study art studies, drama and performing arts, therapy and counseling, medical adminstration, and liberal arts. Mary Baldwin SelectivityThe admissions department at Mary Baldwin does not accept all those who apply. Most students' verbal SAT scores were in the range of 470 to 580 in 2007. A quarter of students admitted in 2007 scored 550 or higher on the math SAT. It's not unusual for students to find their classmates include those from other parts of the country. A very high share of students at the school are female. Student LifeMary Baldwin serves primarily full-time students. Many students live in housing on or near campus.
