Maryland Institute College of Art, popularly referred to as MICA, was originally established in 1826 as the Maryland Institute for the Promotion of the Mechanic Arts. Located in Baltimore, Maryland, the college's recent enrollments have been more than 1,500 students. At MICA, students can opt for bachelor’s and master’s degrees in various subjects. The institute also offers several certification courses, and continuing education programs. Besides, MICA organizes various programs for studying abroad. These off-campus courses are available in countries like Italy, Jamaica, Japan, France, and Germany. The Student Enrollment of the institution consists of international students representing over 45 states in the U.S, and more than 50 countries around the world.

Maryland Institute College of Art boasts of an impressive alumni with personalities including William Henry Rinehart, sculptor; Wright Butler, architect; Carlos Florez, Director; and Jen Stark, Paper Sculptor, Drawer, Animator. The institute’s Master of Fine Arts program was placed at the 4th position among the fine arts master programs in the nation by the U.S. News and World Report of 2008.
