Study at Brandeis University
Brandeis University is a private research university located in Waltham, Massachusetts. It was established as a coeducational institution in 1948 on the location of the former Middlesex University. The university is named after the first Jewish Justice of the United States Supreme Court, Louis Dembitz Brandeis. It enrolls more than 3,000 undergraduate and over 2,000 graduate students every semester. Brandeis offers an array of degrees and programs through the following academic divisions: The university sponsors the Wien International Scholarship for international undergraduate students. Brandeis’s athletic teams are nicknamed the Judges. They compete in the University Athletic Association conference of the NCAA's Division III. Brandeis is located in a small city, in Waltham, MA. The school is a private, not-for-profit institution. Degree levels at Brandeis top out at the Doctoral degree. Course TopicsOne of the good things about the school is its wide range of programs leading to degrees. Students at Brandeis often study mathematics, science, computer science and engineering, medical adminstration, and liberal arts. Brandeis SelectivityThe admissions department at the school does not accept all those who apply. In 2007, 64% of applicants were rejected at Brandeis. Most students' verbal SAT scores were in the range of 630 to 730 in 2007. A quarter of students admitted in 2007 scored 730 or higher on the math SAT. FacultyStudents at Brandeis benefit from the low student/teacher ratio. The school's tenure system is geared toward rewarding and keeping the most valuable professors. By paying its faculty better than most schools, Brandeis tries to attract and retain a high quality teaching staff. Student EnrollmentThe school offers classes to 5,333 students (4,960 full-time equivalent). Student LifeBrandeis serves primarily full-time students. Many students live in housing on or near campus.
