Profile of Kaplan Career Institute

Kaplan Career Institute offers career-focused programs of higher education in communities throughout the United States. The school offers day and evening classes to accommodate the student's busy schedule and its accelerated curricula give students the opportunity to earn a diploma in as little as 9 to 15 months or an associate's degree in less than 2 years. At the present time, Kaplan has six campuses: Albuquerque, Cleveland, Detroit, Harrisburg, ICM (Pittsburgh), and Nashville. Each campus has its own history. The Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, campus was founded as Beckley College in 1918. The ICM Campus was founded in 1963 as the Institute of Computer Management (ICM) School of Business. The Cleveland campus was founded in 1980 as Total Technical Institute before coming under the Kaplan umbrella in 2007, as did the former Southeastern Career College in Nashville.

Course Topics

Kaplan's career education programs provide training for entry-level employment in some of the country's fastest-growing occupations. Actual programs vary by campus, but programs are available in disciplines related to the fields of business, health care, information systems, legal studies, secretarial science studies, and specialized technology.

Kaplan Career Institute Admissions

Prospective applicants are encouraged to contact an Admissions Representative as the initial step in the admissions process. This can be done by either calling the school or requesting more information online. Once this has been done, the Admissions Representative can walk the applicant through a step-by-step process to:

  • Arrange for a personal tour of the campus
  • Continue with the admissions process

Kaplan Career Institute Student Enrollment

Actual Student Enrollment composition varies by campus. For example, enrollment at the ICM campus is over 1,000 students who are roughly evenly divided between men and women. Enrollment at the Harrisburg campus, however, is about half as large with a 70%/30% ratio of women to men.

Kaplan Career Institute Student Life

Student life is very much a function of which campus the student chooses. Albuquerque affords lots of recreational options as well as history and culture. The Detroit campus is conveniently located downtown near the intersection of two major highways. The Cleveland campus is conveniently located on a bus line offering easy access from all over the Cleveland area. The Harrisburg campus, located in Pennsylvania's capital city, is in an area replete with art and culture, sports and entertainment, and fine restaurants. The ICM Campus is located minutes away from the beautiful Monongahela River. and the Nashville campus is located in a city that was named one of the 15 best cities for work and family and one of the 25 cities that are likely to have the country's highest job growth over the coming five years by Fortune magazine.
