Doctor of Education - Organizational Leadership:
This EdD specialization is focused on two foundational principles: First,
communication is a central factor that affects organizational success. Second,
leaders have a significant influence on the quality of communication in their
organizations. Leaders may foster and nourish supportive communication cultures;
encourage intelligent information management; employ conventional as well as new
social networks; and model professional communication behaviors in meetings,
when using new technology, in oral presentations, and in written communications.
The ability to do this successfully will affect not only the organization’s
success but the careers of leaders themselves. Students will analyze
contemporary communication and leadership challenges pertaining to
globalization, new technologies, crisis and communication, and assessment.
Courses require students to examine both academic and practitioner perspectives
on these issues. In addition, students in this specialization will be required
to analyze their own organizations’ communications and identify methods for
improving the quality of communication and leadership therein.
