Study at Southwest Mississippi Community College
Southwest Mississippi Community College, also referred to as SMCC, traces its history to 1908 when the Mississippi legislature allowed counties to set up agricultural schools. The Pike County Agricultural High School was established in September, 1918. It became a 2-year junior college in 1932, and finally in 1988, it was christened the Southwest Mississippi Community College. The 60-acre campus of SMCC is located in Summit, Mississippi. Southwest Mississippi Community College offers a large number of associate’s degrees in the fields of nursing, career and technical education, humanities/ fine arts, mathematics and science, and social sciences and business. The athletics teams of Southwest Mississippi Community College are known as the Bears.
