Missouri University of Science and Technology is a co-educational, public university located in Rolla, Missouri. It was formerly known as University of Missouri–Rolla, until January 1, 2008. It is a part of the University of Missouri System. The university was established in 1870 as the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy. In 1964, it was given university status and was renamed the University of Missouri at Rolla. The academic departments of Missouri S&T include the following: Missouri St&T's sports teams are known as the Miners. Baseball, basketball, cross country, track & field, football, soccer, swimming, softball and volleyball teams are all sponsored by the university. The main campus of Missouri University of Science and Technology is in Rolla, MO (a self-contained town). The school is a public school.
