Seychelles Education
The
climate is equable although quite humid, as the islands
are small. The temperature varies little throughout the
year. Temperatures on Mah vary from 24 to 30 C , and
rainfall ranges from 2, 900 mm annually at Victoria to
3, 600 mm on the mountain slopes. Creole is
the first official language of Seychelles since 1981. In
the year 1990, majority of the population in Seychelles
were the speaker of Creole language. Now, the language
of Seychelles is mixed because the population of the
country belongs to different language, culture and
religion. The Rupee, denoted by SCR, is the
official currency of Seychelles. Divided into 100 cents,
the currency is locally called the "roupi." There are
banknotes of 10, 25, 50, and 100 rupees. The population of Seychelles in 2003 was
estimated by the United Nations at 80, 000, which placed
it as number 181 in population among the 193 nations of
the world. In that year approximately 8% of the
population was over 65 years of age, with another 29% of
the population under 15 years of age. Victoria is the capital city of the
Seychelles (smallest African capital) and is situated on
the north-eastern side of Mah island, which is the main
island of the archipelago. The city was first
established as the seat of the British colonial
government.
