Currency:The Romanian leu (plural "lei"), often denoted by RON, is the national currency of Romania. Subdivided into 100 bani (singular "ban"), the leu was established in 1880 after the National Bank of Romania was founded.
Population:The population of Romania in 2003 was estimated by the United Nations at 22, 334, 000, which placed it as number 49 in population among the 193 nations of the world. In that year approximately 14% of the population was over 65 years of age, with another 18% of the population under 15 years of age.
Capital City:Bucharest is the capital city, cultural, industrial, and financial centre of Romania. It is the largest city in Romania, located in the southeast of the country.
